What is GIJO? Well, you may be tempted to think of camouflage when you hear “G.I. Jo” but it has nothing to do with the military, or the macho little dolls who stole Barbie from Ken.
G.I.J.O. stands for “Greater Illinois Junior Olympics” and it is a program with competition opportunities for recreational gymnasts who love gymnastics, but do not want the time, financial and travel commitment required by traditional USAG teams. Gymnasts, age 7 and older, compete in one of four levels, 4, 5, 6, and optional (which competes using high school rules.) The compulsory routines are based on the routines outlined by USAG.
Participation on the Balance Institute’s GIJO team is by INVITATION ONLY by one of our coaching staff. The GIJO team athletes are required to attend at least 2 days, with the option to practice a third day. The team will have approximately 3 to 4 opportunities to compete at meets during the season.
